Aims of Writing Down Under

Writers in the Southern Hemisphere are a solitary lot, not only because writers are, by nature, lone wolves, but because the writing resources available to the literary inclined in the United States, the UK and Europe, are often closed to those of us in the Southern realms. While writing avidly for competitions, websites, magazines and papers, we often discover, always during the final step of the process, that...oops...the opportunity is open to Northern dwellers only. At other times, we're welcome to submit our writing but without being paid the fee offered to overseas contributors. It's a frustrating waste of time and effort; and markets can be sparse indeed.

A couple of years of negotiating this fickle business led me to believe a whole separate resource was needed for the writing community in Australia, New Zealand and our similarly afflicted South Pacific neighbours. As well as showcasing my own work on the world wide web (which is a must for the modern author), I aim to locate and publicize the writing markets, competitions, web sites and other writing resources that welcome submissions and input from Down Under.

Like my ancestors, I'm beginning with little but a pioneering spirit and a determination to contribute something worthwhile to the writing community in the southern hemisphere.

New resources will be added weekly so be sure to check in regularly.

Meet Gede Parma! Author of Spirited: Taking Paganism Beyond the Circle

Gede's first work was written in his teens and published by Llewellyn Worldwide - an incredible accomplishment by this highly evolved and 'spirited' young man who I am privileged to know. Beautifully written, with a wisdom well beyond his years, it will remind you that spirit crosses all man-made barriers. From our youth, we learn. Read more here.
